1 February, Thursday - Day 30 (I think)

Last night was stormy with very heavy rain.   The drumming  on the tent can be cozy, but a whole night is a bit too much.

But a hut like this traditional one will have been seriously damaged last night.   It is built with a kind of clay made from thermite nests.  Hardened in the sun but still not very resistent to rain.  More than 90% of the dwellings in the villages are built in this way, with a thick thatched roof.  Surprisingly cool.

But this is the dream house..... even if the windows cannot be opened.   Imagine the temperature inside.

Preparing toast over the gas burner - so very special.

An almost American kitchen with view on the courtyard with red sand under huge trees.

The night was cold, but today is ever so pleasant.  Our laundry is being processes and we will enjoy another day here before continuing 50 kms further down the right bank of the Okavango.   Last night we heard the hippos, but till now we have not seen any.
