After a late and peaceful breakfast at « River Chalets » in Mariental we will take the B1 tarmac road for around 145 kms via Gideon, and Asab to Tses, where the adventure should start: 38 kms on dust road M98 to Berseba and then 8 kms to camp at Mount Brukkaros.
In the middle of a stone desert, the extinct volcano, Mount Brukkaros , rises between Mariental and Keetmanshoop (1586 m).
This extinct volcano was formed some 80 mio years ago, when a magma pipe encountered ground water about 1 km under the earth and created a series of explosions.
The campsite looked as if there had been an explosion, too. No electricity, no water, no toilet ..... although the nature is beautiful, we decide to drive another 135 km to reach Aus, where we have camped before. The « Desert Horse Inn » offers an excellent campsite, which we are to share with a large group of German campers.
But before leaving Brukkanos, we climb up towards the crater.
With beautiful views on the plain and all the colours of Namibia ... yellow, green, brown, white, orange, red, blue in all shades and violet.
Arriving at Klein-Aus Vista and the campsite « Desert Horse » - once again the campsite « Eagle Nest » is full (high up on the mountain)
A bit tired after un unexpectedly long voyage, we limit the culinary efforts to a minimum in order to turn in early. The sun is setting on the spectacular landscape, the wind is relatively warm, no clouds and many, many stars.
